When we went to go bowling Wednesday everyone had a blast and so did I. Everyone bowled while eating and drink some soda. It was so much fun I hope we go again next year. I hope everyone can say the same thing.
In the classroom time that we had, we worked on our presentations, that we chose a topic to talk and present about. We also watched informational videos on the food industry and how’s food is made, the movies we watch were very full of information and we all learned a lot watching them.
On Friday we made our smoothie of products we got on Thursday at King Kullen. We made are smoothies in the cafe of blueberries, strawberries, mango, and many more fruits. I thought that it was very fun making the smoothies and they were very good.
We have had Karate every day throughout our field academy course. For the past week and a half we have been learning a Kata called Heian Shodan. A Kata is an individual training exercise in karate and other martial arts. We have also been learning how to block, punch, kick, and the stances to be in when we are doing karate. Then we had a belt ceremony where we preformed the Kata as well as the different stances we learned.
Due to a storm, our trip to Gravity Vault was cancelled, but we used our time to work on our projects. Although we were disappointed at first, we soon realized that this time was best used for something productive. We worked on our projects, gave some presentations, and took breaks for Wellness. It was really fun that we still had the ability to stay active during the day.
Some students also had the opportunity to present today, and we had great questions AND comments. These two students shown bellow are Bella Walsh and me, Chelsea Coard. Bella and I worked on these two presentations about essential oils and social media.
On Friday March 2nd, the Active Body, Healthy Mind field academy went to the Southampton ice skating rink. I am terrible at ice skating, unlike our math teacher, Mr. Roberts. He told us he played hockey when he was in school, and that’s how he learned to skate so well.
Some kids had never really skated before, so they took the hands of others who were more experienced.
Although of course we fell,
we still all had a great time!
. On March 5th, we got to work in the Ross School garden with Mrs. Dobbs. She showed us how to use the tools provided to move the compost and make a square for more planting. Some people also raked the weeds off of the compost. Some people carried logs over to an area to make the square.
This Thursday we went to Gotham gym in Bridgehampton NY to do boxing. It was a great and beneficial experience for us. We used the punching bag which was new but very fun. Our whole class had a great time and would like to do it again.

On Tuesday, we went on a seal walk in Montauk! Unfortunately, we didn’t come across any seals, but the hike was quite nice. The reason we didn’t see any seals is because of insanely rough waters caused by a nor’easter we just experienced. This is a pond along the trail
This is the beach at the end of the trail (where the seals usually are!)
This is another photo of the beach!
This Wednesday the 7/8th grade field academy (active body healthy mind) went to Gotham Gym Bridgehampton to box. When we got to the gym we were greeted by coach Clair. Coach Clair taught us the basic fundamentals of boxing, ie. stance, punches, and defending. We started class with practicing some combinations like jab cross or cross jab uppercut etc. Then to practice combinations we tried to guess each other’s combinations. We finished by partnering up and hit glove to glove. It was an overall great experience and a full body workout.
