Day Three 3/8/17 – Bowling

Bowling Picture 2 from JoshOur group went bowling at the All Star bowling alley. We were placed in the VIP area all to ourselves, which included blacklights and a huge video projector. We had two lanes for students and one for the teachers. We played two rounds each, and then we went to the arcade. We had a lot of fun competing against our peers and gambling in the arcade. We stayed at the bowling alley for lunch and had a great day.

Day One 3/6/17 – Morton Wildlife Refuge

Today we took a walk through Morton Wildlife Refuge. What a great start to our field academy. Sunlight on kids standing still, arms outstretched, palms full of seed, waiting patiently for birds to gently land. Watching, listening, then running to the next spot. We have to go back there next week!IMG_6350IMG_6371IMG_6353

We fed the birds, and we saw swans and ducks. It was very cold but very mindful and peaceful. Josh

Mindful Living Course Overview

Students in this course strive to feel better, look better, think better, and perform better. By engaging in daily practices and exercise routines that include meditation, functional body awareness, and total body workouts, students gain skills and knowledge in physical fitness. Additionally, students take numerous field trips for outdoor activities and engage in fun and challenging cooperative activities where they are asked to examine the relationship between personal wellness and social and natural environment. Trips include hikes and healthy food shopping, bowling, swimming lessons, tennis lessons, ice skating, indoor wall climbing, and laser tag. Students learn about nutrition, the importance of sleep and emotional management, and how to take care of themselves in ways that support their aspiration to do well.
